In the Washington Post today a paper on tech gifts for Christmas. Look
what they say about Satellite Radio:

"· Satellite radio. The merger of former competitors Sirius and XM has
mainly yielded confusion and anger, as customers have found favorite
channels disappearing from these still-separate programming lineups
with no notice. The company says it's giving each service's listeners a
chance to enjoy channels once confined to the other, but in the
process, good, original programs have gone silent and familiar DJs have
been kicked to the curb.

A receiver that could tune in to both Sirius and XM broadcasts would
address this problem, but no such thing is in stores. Until this
company puts one on the market, stops gutting its programming and
starts communicating its plans clearly to customers, why reward it with
your money? " :oÞ

It's a fair question. A lot of people feel royally screwed by the channel
changes this month. There's been a long history of dropping the more
interesting music channels in favor of going blander and blander, no one gets
a say in what goes away, and they treat you like an idiot if you complain
about losing a favorite channel. If you're paying for the radio service,
shouldn't that allow for niche channels? Why should eclectic channels be taken
away in favor of things like all-Grateful-Dead-all-the-zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

For the money involved, most people interested in music would be far better
off with an ipod-like device and paid downloads. (I can't say if the talk
channels are worth the money--I never listened to them.)

If you're interested in a genre of talk radio not found on your local
airwaves, then it can seem like an attractive option.

However, the talk channels are the first thing to go silent on the
fledgling sat-rad monopoly whenever there's a football game being played
anywhere in the USA. So we talk radio customers are feeling screwed
right now as well.
