Post by MikeI believe the XM Weather Channel also got its pinkslip. Probably few
other people care but it was (is) a preset on my car unit--it was
interesting and informative for me to hear what was going on
weatherwise across the country.
I don't want to minimize the pain of those laid off. But I want my
XM!

In the event of a significant weather event, XM 247 goes live. You get
far more focused coverage of weather events that way, thanks to the local
news channels 247 then streams than you would from an anchor/anchorette
sitting in a studio in Atlanta (or wherever) could possibly give you.
Further, more than ninety per cent of the US population lives in an area
covered by one of the dedicated local weather channels. Anyone interested
in national weather can spend an hour skimming across those channels and
come away better informed than they would by listening to TWC.
It was a nearly useless chanel most of the time, and a poor option in
those times when it might seem to be most needed. And, as I believe it
was sinply a repurposing of the TV channel audio, I don't believe anyone
lost a job due to its removal from XM. Given all that, there seems to
have been as little harm done in removing TWC as there could possibly be
from removing any channel, short of the program-has-not-yet-started loop.
