(NYC - PRESS). The late night radio
industry is a buzz with a rumor that
radio talk show maven Art Bell may
make an anticipated jump to satellite radio.
Currently Sirius and XM have filed with the FCC.
Supporting the merger are these companies;"Honda,
Crutchfield, Circuit City, the NAACP
and League of United Latin American
Citizens, American Trucking Associations,
National Council of Women’s
Organizations, and League of Rural Voters."
A mass exodus of listeners could result should
Art Bell emerge on the satellite
radio after a merger. An enthusiastic radio
strategist comments, "It may make him the most
powerful voice on satellite radio, if he plays
his card right!" Art Bell announced
his retirement earlier this month.

I can't imagine Art Bell selling subs anywhere near the level of a
Stern. I'm sure he'd get enough crackpots to subscribe in decent
numbers, maybe 150,000 or so, but his content isn't really anything
that needs to be on satellite. It's not like he's pushing FCC
boundaries.

This would seem unlikely. What would Bell get from satellite that he didn't
already have in his old format? And his existing show is already carried by
XM satellite.
