Space Systems/Loral to Build High-Power Satellite for SIRIUS Satellite Radio

<quote>
"SIRIUS FM-6 will provide nearly double the power of the satellites in SIRIUS' existing,
in-orbit constellation, continuing to improve service for SIRIUS subscribers.
Scheduled for completion in 2010, the new satellite will provide more than 15 years of
service life.
Sirius has not announced a launch provider for the new satellite."

"The spacecraft design is based on SS/L's 1300 space-proven platform,
which provides the flexibility to accommodate a broad range of applications
and technology advances. SIRIUS FM-6 will carry an X-band uplink and an S-band downlink
payload.
With almost 20 kilowatts end-of-life power, it will be one of the most powerful satellites
being built today."

I'm speculating that part of this sat's function is to stream XM into the
northern wasteland - AKA Canuckistan - overcoming the low look angle of the
stationaries perhaps???.

ROTFLMAO.

Sirius is launching a new satellite to "stream XM"? How does that
work? Did they get some more spectrum from somewhere? And besides,
they just enter into a 1/4 billion contract before the merger is even
approved?

This has nothing to do with XM and everything to do with lousy
engineering decisions made years ago.

Frontmed you are an idiot aren't you, you remind me of that joke about the
village idiot, I'd repeat it but you would never get it.

It has everything to do with XM and everything to do with XM's lousy
engineering decision to go with an equatorial constellation with a look
angle that never could properly service nothern latitudes.

Admit it, you've been suckered by XM's engineering hyperbole and you still
don't have a clue.

Let's get this straight, nitwit.

Sirius is having to purchase its sixth satellite (3 currently in orbit
plus one ground spare plus a GEO to be launched next year and now this
one the year after) because of "XM's lousy engineering decision"???

You are beyond just being an idiot.

Nice try, but no cigar for not addressing the issue at hand - XM's inability
to deliver a decent signal in the upper northern latitudes. No amount of
blithering, obfuscation, and dissembling by you Frontmed is ever going to
change the fact and that XM made a lousy engineering decision.

The idiocy is that they left it to Karmazin to be proactive in fixing their
problem. You ought to be thankful that Karmazin will become CEO, at the very
least he'll shake up the XM board.

The XM board suffers from a bean counter paralysis - and has done for a
number of years, Karmazin will fix that as well.

Regret to be the prick to bust ya balloon but no not from the Canuckistan,
on the other hand the resident poor white trash - Frontmed - may be from
there, he's XM's resident Baghdad Bob.

Assuming the company is still around then. With all the dire problems they
listed in trying to get the merger pushed through, a person has to wonder.

Yes, assuming all's well.
