Is it possible for little puck antenna to simply die?
I don't see any obvious breaks in the wires, and the
car radio plays with other antenna (the boombox
antenna, the antenna in the other car).

Absolutely. I've had two of them die. They are not mere "wires" like standard
antennae. They are powered and have a circuit board.

I use a silicone gel to water proof my antenna.
The kind you use around glass. Auto stores carry it.

Water was getting into the body of my antenna
thru the wire entrance and causing failure to gain a signal.

Using this method I have always had a strong signal.
